So bottom line. I have been out of work for 9 months now, and collecting unemployment. I am looking at a couple of jobs that offer 1099 contracting work. Does anyone know for the state of PA if I'd be able to collect unemployment while on a 1099? Everything I looked up thus far is people asking if they're eligible for unemployment after being released on 1099. I am asking if I am able to do a 1099 while collecting unemployment. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

In NY, each week when you certify your claim you are asked if you were available for work every day and how much you earned, even from freelance work. The amounts earned are used to offset your unemployment payments for the week.

Independent contract work under a Form 1099 is STILL work under the definition of how much you make while collecting unemployment.

BOTTOM LINE: If you earn money under a Form 1099 and do NOT report it to your unemployment office, you are committing fraud!
