View Full Version : I hate it when they put sex-related scenes into what looks like a child's movie.

I hate it so much when they put sex related scenes into a movie that is suppose to be for children and kids. I don't know why in these days, sex is such a big thing and is everywhere on the Internet.
The other day, my sister was bored, so I told her she could watch Dragon Ball Z (she likes cartoons and I thought she might like that since I read the comics), she is 8 years old. After watching it for a while, she starts to like it. But then comes this part where the they introduces the "pervert old man" who also happens to be some of the most important characters in the comic show. He has a reputation of having a nose bleed every time he sees young woman's with big boobs. He saw this young woman and tried to touch her boobs.
I was a little concerned when I saw her watching that part, (she appeared to have been startled as well), so I told her to turn it off...
I got mad because I guarantee you that the comic was suppose to be for kids, with funny pictures and very childish drawings. But like I said, people these days like to just put a little sexual in stuff to make it more "mature" or something. I hate that.
There needs to be a border, where all the adult stuff in the adult side and all the kid stuff in the kids side, no in-between. I would guess that drives parents crazy? Not sure of which TV shows is safe for children, because TV shows that looks okay at first is not so OK.
Oh, did I mentioned the young woman also took off her bra? (She was standing with her back so we couldn't she her boobs, but still... )

And if it isn't the show itself it's the commercials... you can't win.

And have you guys notice lately, there have been absolutely NO good family movies? There has been numerous number of horror movies coming out, 13th of Friday, bloody valentine, perfect getaway, You name it. Before there has been good movies like, um, Ice Age for example, Madagascar, etc. good family movies.
One of the sexual related movie I could as well add for my example is Marley and Me, because it depicts PERFECT for what I'm talking about.
It's a movie about the life of a wacky dog, who got into so much trouble for his owners (and him). Sounds pretty good right? Thinking about taking your kids to see it? Well, I thought just that, I thought maybe my sister and I could see it.
Then guessed what? I found out the movie has like 5 sexual scenes in it! Sex, sex, sex, humping, sex, it's ridiculous! Especially the part where Marley humps that instructor was completely unnecessary. I know they want it to be funny, but cmon!

Wow I figured that was a movie for kids.
Glad you said something.
I quit watching TV and I'd rather rent some older kids movies like Toy Story, Little Rascals, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Lion King etc...
I know for awhile they were making movies that made the kid look like a hero and the dad look like a dorky dufus.

the thing about dragonball z is that it's not a cartoon, it's an anime. It's japanese animation that has been dubbed over and marketed in america. The mangas (what you're calling comic books) are usually made in america, or at least heavily edited. Even though dragonball z is marketed for kids in america it is still a japanese show that was originally intended for teenagers and young adults.
I'm sure you've heard of sailor moon. A cute kids' cartoon, right? Wrong. It's another anime, and has been HEAVILY edited for viewing in america. The original version is lesbian porn. The sex scenes have been removed and much of the dialog has been changed to make it suitable for children.
cartoons and anime are not the same thing. In america we are so used to seeing cartoons as a childrens' media that we forget that it's not always. Anime is a popular media for adults in japan. Think of it as along the same lines as south park or family guy. They're cartoons, but not ones you would want children seeing.

Very true cartoons and anime are different but there are many cartoons too that kids watch that are far from appropriate.

Marley & Me is also so true-to-life sad at the end that My kids and I will probably never watch it again (I'll watch it alone and cry and enjoy it.) But that makes me wonder. Is it the movie that is "bad" or my expectations of what it will be like. Marley & Me is not a family movie!
If you read reviews they can guide you to a movie choice. But keep in mind that a review is an advertisement of sorts. It isn't really what is true for you; they couldn't represent your truth anyway, the reviewer isn't you.
Sex is a part of life. Movies use scenes of this part of life to illustrate many things. What are they attempting to show you? Sexual activity isn't bad, doesn't need to be hidden as if it does not exist. Since there are no hard and fast rules as to what someone of a certain age should or shouldn't watch, it's frequently a judgement call by parents. There are some movies rated PG that my 11-year-old is not allowed to watch. There are R movies that she can see any time.
Sex and violence are filmed representations of the same. No one actually has sex, or dies. Once someone is able to understand that it is a representation and mature enough to ask questions about why something was filmed that way and protest if desired, he is old enough to see an R movie with a parent.
Sure there are people 40+ years old who do not know how to formulate questions about what they see. Those people should watch G movies only maybe?

Exactly, and there are animes that are completey appropriate for children. The trouble comes when someone doesn't research what the children will be seeing and then freaks out.
The OP freaking out telling their sister to turn off the TV is possibly the worse thing they could have done. Kids use our reactions to judge how they should react. If she hadn't freaked out then her sister might not have even registered what happened, let alone remembered it later. Because of the reaction the scene garnered she will remember it for a long time, and it may become a sort of 'forbidden fruit.'
N0help4u

Yeah and often kids get to the point that the freaked out forbidden is what they end up going for.
hheath541
Aug 18, 2009, 10:23 PM
Especially concerning sex at an age when they're starting to get curious about bodies. Once kids start hitting puberty, the body becomes a fascination and making topics or events forbidden just makes them all the more interesting.

Oh crap, so what should I do? My sister freaked out and was a little startled, so that was how I knew she had seen something inappropriate.

Ideally your mom, or both parents should talk to her about what she saw. If it needs to be you, allow her to express what she felt. Don't put words and ideas into her head. Her perception of how it felt to see it was probably very different from yours.
Once you see where she is on the subject, give her validation and feedback from your own perspective. Share with her using concepts she can grasp.

Your sister's reaction is HER OWN. Projecting your reactions into or onto her will only lead to conflict, even if they are the same.
Both of you need to discuss this with your parents. As an example, I will NOT project my family's values onto yours. I am almost positive they are different, but the projection would be condescending if they were the same. Please give your sister the respect I give to you.

Definitely talk to your parents hon.
And I agree with you about the lower ammounts of family movies. They have come out with ice age 3 now and madagascar 2 is still fairly new if you haven't seen it yet?
I haven't seen the 'UP' movie yet so I can't speak for that one. (the 'balloon house movie' as my daughter and her cousin call it lol)

In Aladdin. In the scene where Aladdin and Jasmine are to take a magic carpet ride, Aladdin calls on Jasmine to come with him, and continues to speak under his breath “teenagers take off your clothes”
In The Lion King, when Simba, plops down and a cloud of dust and leaves, it forms the letters S-E-X, with each letter fading as the next becomes clear. Also Simba is talking to his father in the night sky where stars can be seen. Upon connecting these stars, a penis is formed
*many people already know this one, I still have this cover today lol*
the little mermaid has a few. A penis on the cover. The priest marrying prince eric and ursula at the end has a 'woody' (which is suppose to be his knee, but its in totally the wrong place)
there was also something on an early poster that was supposedly too distastefull to even mention.
and aparently there was a recal of a version of The rescuers lol. While bernard and bianca (the mice) are flying on the bird in the city, in the background in one of the city buildings, there is a topless woman in a window

They shouldn't think that they HAVE to put something sexual in kids' movie so parents will watch it... Hey survivorboi! Just found your thread. I'm shocked of all the stuff they put in cartoons intended for kids...
It's only some years ago that I noticed those things while watching a cartoon movie, I forgot which, but that made me 'flinch' and I looked at my little sister who was watching too. Fortunately, I think she didn't notice what was happening. Now I realise that these are not only in a few cartoons, but actually in many more...
