I have the five properties, but I don't quite understand what the teacher wants for the second part (five characteristics "working together" to make an organism living.)

Think about any two of them. Could one be present without the other not present?

Living organisms require energy. They eat to do so. They use that energy to breathe and do other things included in the characteristics you were asked to list.
