A dog just had puppy in a burnt down house across the street from my new house. It's the runt, mabey 5-6 weeks old. Made its way all the way to my front door. It was INFESTED with ticks and fleas. We took it to the vet, got it a worm pill and some meds for the fleas and ticks. We pulled off over 250 ticks. The puppy will not eat that much, can food, hard food, table scraps. And will not drink but a few licks a day. We have gone to the petsmart and got powder dog milk and feed it to her 3 times a day. Also we feed her sugarwater. This is the fourth day we have had her and she is beginning to start wagind her tail and playing a little, but is still sleeping a lot. What should I do? When can we get her shots? Vet told us nothing! [/RIGHT]

Here is a great site for new puppy owners, it has pretty much everything you need to know on it so I suggest you have a read...

Your New Puppy (http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/new-puppy.html)

Seeing as how he is only 5-6 weeks old he is probably missing his litter mates and has been under a lot of stress so the eating will come with time.
Try to avoid table scraps, get some canned puppy food and warm it up in the microwave a little to make it smell a bit more appealing.
You an also try soaking dry puppy chow as well.
Just take half a cup of dry food and soak it for half an hour in a quarter of a cup of boiling water.

As for drinking, try adding a little splash of puppy milk in with his water (don't use cows milk)
Some puppies are fussy about drinking plain water so the dash of milk helps.

Thank you for rescuing this little pup.

If she had fleas and ticks and worms that bad she is probably anemic being that she is still just a puppy.

It is very important to keep her hydrated so I would invest in a syringe and try to get her to ingest fluids. Not too much.

I am sure you can find the right amount on line or ask the vet.

Just Dahlia agrees: your new avi is pretty, but for some reason it's freaking me out!
LMAO ! That's so funny, why ?
You don't know the reason. You need to explore that.
I think it's the light over the head.
Maybe it is just too presumptuous of me to be a Buddha :)
I wasn't sure about it either so its going.
I felt presumptuous :)
I thank you for your honesty and I am really laughing out loud!
