I took my 3month old male kitten to a local veterinary clinic for an injured leg around July 13th or 14th. The vet x-rayed his leg and informed us that he had a pretty bad fracture at his knee. He told us there were two options for this problem, we could leave it alone or have it splinted. We wanted it splinted because we wanted to do everything possible for him at the time. Once it was splinted and wrapped we were told to bring him back in 4 weeks so we took him back at that time. They removed the outter wrapping first and then the plastic splint, however once they reached the cotton part that was wrapped around his leg, we noticed he had been bleeding. It was also infected and oozing, there was a horrible smell also. The vet told us it was just a pressure sore and that within a couple of days it would start healing. He gave us some antibiotics to give him but that was all. The vet didn't even clean the wound at all, not only that but they also lost their grip on him and he fell from the exam table. He was bleeding all the way home and the next day also. We gave him the antibiotics and were hoping his foot would improve somewhat, however within the week we noticed no improvement. His foot looked awful and continued to smell awful also.
We took him to a different vet after that week and were told it was pretty bad, that the splint never should have been put on if it was a knee or hip fracture. He cleaned the foot and told us the kitten could lose his foot.
We paid the first vet $180 and none of what was done helped it only added to the problem.
Now that we have this other vet's opinion that the first vet did the wrong thing, what should we do next, contact that vet for a refund, call the BBB, or lawsuit, we would appreciate any advice on this.

You could try Small Claims but in most States animals are in the same category as furniture - possessions.

As long as Vet #2 has put the incompetence of Vet #1 in writing I'd contact #1 and ask for a refund.

Then I'd come back here and let us know what's happened and move on to step two - whatever that will be.
