I'm having a bit of a problem with my nose piercing.

Just a bit of background information: I pierced it myself June 25th with a thick sewing needle. At first the only jewelry I had was a sterling silver $1 stud. I put that in for the time being and the next day went to a professional piercing shop to have a surgical stainless steel cbr put in.

Now I understand I'm going to get comments on how stupid to pierce your own nose, understandable, but beyond that point everything was fine. I had sea salt and anti-bacterial soap from when I had my eyebrow pierced (professionally) and just continued to use those for my nose.

Towards the ending of July a little red bump began to form next to the exterior of the nostril next to the piercing. It didn't hurt but was annoying so I just continued to sea salt soak etc... However that didn't seem to be working and the bump began to bleed. So experimenting I stopped using the sea salt wondering if it was irritating it (which ended up being the case). As I just washed it with the soap and used an low dose asprin paste, I noticed the bump reduce in size but not completely go away.

Now that bump is significantly smaller and no longer blood red, however, I noticed a bump begin to form on the inside of my nostril as well next to the piercing. I'm unsure of what I should be doing. Since the bump has decreased in size, I believe its possible to get rid of it and that it is just a cause of the jewelry being knocked around in sleep during the early healing process.

Would love to hear your advice/thoughts on the matter

Hello fellow nose piercer! I had mine done and the same bump showed up on my nose. Only I only had an internal bump I just kept cleaning it as instructed and slowly but surely it did decrease in size. Its been quite few months (6 I think) I still have a small little bump I can feel right by the hole on the inside, but it don't hurt. I called the tattoo shop that did it and they said its not uncommon. I would just advise that you watch for signs of infection (stink, pus, bright red) Hope it helps

The whole thing is its not the best idea to pierce your nose yourself. But it could very well be a keloid which is scar tissue building up, and if there was puss and blood that means that there is an infection. The best thing to do is wash your hands every time before touching your piercing and try your best not to hit it or anything for the next little while.
