We just adopted a 3 year old Doberman, he was spayed about a month before we got him and he has 2 very enlarged nipples (the second two). Does anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned?

Are his nipples calloused? If so, he's been laying on a hard/rough surface too much. If not, make a vet appointment.

Does he lay on concrete? Any other hard surface? Get him a mat or pad. My Great Dane had the same condition. The vet actually had to put a band that they use on bull's testicles to castrate them, on one of them. The nipple, just like the bull's jewels, fell off in time. It's not cruel or painful( he said, the vet, not the dog), and it solved the problem. It's like a thick rubber band. Chances are the vet can tell you what to do, and it won't be a big deal.

Male dogs can't be spayed, they can only be neutered.

Other then that, I agree with Cats and JM, sounds like irritation from laying or a rough surface.

Best bet is to take your dog to the vet.

I meant neutered, I wrote in a hurry. Sounds like it could be that, he does have an elbow also that is very calloused. Thanks for your help and these days he spends his time on a soft couch or bed outside.
