Ive been in the UK since April and I do not know anyone except of course my husband. He goes to work everyday and Im a confirmed housewife. Back home I have loads of friends to chat with, joke and gossip, going out shopping, ladies night out etc etc. Can anyone advise me how to find real genuine friends online in my area because this loneliness is really freaking me out. HELP! :(

Don't know about online, but making friends through hobbies, and activities, you like has always worked for me. It does take time though.

Consider that it was over a period that you made the friends you had from where you are at. Starting over is a challenge, but a rewarding one.

What do you like to do?

Go to Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com (http://www.meetup.com) It is an online site that caters to people finding friends. You can join a group (of your interest) or start a group. It is a fun way to meet people.

I am an active member of a group in NY called Parents want to have fun and we do a lot of things together with or without our kids.

Check it out!

By going out and doing hobbies that you enjoy, you will instantly meet people who have some commons interests. It will be easier to get to know people that way.

If you only want to meet friends online, then join the forums that suit your interests. List your interest and search for a forum with people who chat about that topic.

Common interests is the best way to make new friends.

Volunteering is also a good way to meet people.

For example if you are a Dog lover you could volunteer at the local animal shelter , then not only are you doing something you love but have the oppurtunity to meet people with similar interests.
