Hello all, I am new here so bare with me. I had a period on July 1st 2009 and lasted July 3rd 2009, then I started bleeding again a little lighter on July 27th and stopped completely on aug 1st 2009. I started getting dizzy around the 2nd week of August and wasn't feeling well, so I thought I might be pregnant. I took a hpt and got a positive! But I wasn't feeling well at all and was VERY dizzy so I just thought that I would go to the er and get it confirmed and make sure that everything was okay. Well the nurse came back and said that according to their test I am not pregnant. So I left, came home and took another test, positive. Well I was baffled. So I went to the dr and got a blood test. They also said negative. So I got a different test-- different brand-- also negative. I have not had any bleeding or anything so I am not sure what is going on. I guess I am wondering if you think that I could still be pregnant and it just not registering or if I just had a faulty test and if so, when should I expect my next period based on the last two in one month?

How old are you? When were you last sexually active?
It IS around the second week of August right now. Did you take these tests in one day, or did you read the instructions? The at home, pee-on-a-stick type of pregnancy tests are only accurately used with your first pee of the morning.
Do you not have your own doctor? It's okay if you don't, but it makes these things much easier. If you don't, ask the ER doctor how could the pregnancy tests be positive and the blood work be negative.
As far as I know, unless there was an error on one side or the other, they can't. Pregnancy tests, the cheap ones and the expensive ones, all test your urine for a chemical that isn't there UNLESS you are pregnant. Are you sure you were reading the test right? Because a false positive is a one in a million.
Unless, as you already assumed, the tests were duds. What brand were they, anyway? One dud test is just bad luck. Two is bad tests. Check for a recall, or reports of bad tests.

I am 20, have 2 children been married and divorced and now engaged. We are sexually active all the time. Most cases daily unless something comes in the way. I took the urine test that was positive and the one at the er within an hour or 2. I do not have my own doctor right now and no insurance. I asked the er doctor and he said the something must have been wrong with the test because if I was pregnant then their urine test would have picked it up, he proceeded to give me antibiotics for a sinus infection and pushed me on my way. He was not going to even do a pregnancy test till I told him I had a positive one. I am sure that I read the test right, I even took pictures Immediately when I saw the positive so I could send those to you if you would like. I did not assume the test was a dud, we saw the positive and were so excited because my fiancé is 13 years older than me-- he will be 34 on the 29th of this month and he wants one more maybe 2 so we were hoping I was. Not trying-- but excited by the site of a positive. Then to be let down. It was one of the older equates, plus minus, purple/pink dye. Read bad reviews but did not know this until today. Guess false positives are common with this brand :( there is no recall on them but I did call the 800 # and wal mart-- so maybe they will do something. I know they FMU is best, but with my other 3 pregnancies-- gave one up for adoption when I was young-- I NEVER had a positive in the morning, only late at night, and that is when I got them this time too.. so I am taking another one here shortly before I go to bed. Different brand this time though. Thanks for responding and I hope this info helps you give me more answers. I will let you know how the test goes too!

The blood test would have come back positive if you are pregnant. There is no way for those to be wrong unless they mix up your bottles with someone else's, which is unlikely. Take another test to be sure, let us know how it goes. But maybe go to a walk in clinic next time if you get another positive, or a different hopital. You never know.

Me to, but remember: It may be "tonight" for you, but it may still be morning or something for the OP, as this site is world-wide! :)
Off topic: mama, how's your pregnancy trials going? You may just have to request a username change soon! :)

I'm sure you must be pregnant the way you'r given details about you'r self.Take a test after 3 months and if they say, its positive then you're a mom! ALL THE BEST!

I did take the test last night and it looked negative to me. I tried to avoid a blue dye test but that was the only kind I could afford and it was a meijer brand. Despite the fact that I took it out of the box and dropped it in the toilet(it was still in the foil rapper and sealed though) I believe that it was negative. I still have not been feeling well, sore breasts and today I have been experiencing this pain in my side that feels like someone is pinching me in the left side. It does not feel like period pains so I am thinking maybe kidney infection or something. Anyhow, thank you all for your support and advice, I think I was just that one in a million woman that got a false positive! Good luck to all

I also have to say that you are wrong. My ob-gyn told me that they have had SEVERAL cases of women who get positive urine and negative blood.. and had to have an ultrasound to confirm it. Although I do NOT feel this is the case with me, I do not think that you should be on here telling people that this is impossible. Even labs make mistakes and every woman's body is different. With that said, yes my last nest was negative along with my blood and I feel that I just had a faulty test. Thanks

Actually, blood tests can be wrong, depending on what type you had done.
I find it odd that you had two positive hpt's but negatives at the er and doctors.
Wait until your next period is due, if you don't get it then test again.
There are some women that never get a positive result on a pregnancy test but are indeed pregnant.
Keep us posted, let us know what happens.
Good luck. :)

I'm a little worried about the pain in your side, countered with the positive results.
This is just a guess and not meant to scare you but I do have to mention it just in case.
It is possible that you are having an ectopic pregnancy. If this is the case then you need to talk to your doctor, have an ultrasound done and have this confirmed soon.

Lol you I realize its all different times. She just said she was taking a test before she went to bed :)
Well just a waiting game now. I should be starting my period on the 22. Which seems to be taking forever to get here! Thanks for asking! :)

I am young, and it was my understanding that even if you have ectopic pregnancy it usually gives a positive result and since my blood test was negative I assumed that I am okay. My fiancé wants me to go to the er because I no longer have a regular doctor but I have been there so many times I just know that they are sick of seeing me. I have IBS and so I am wondering if I am just having an out of whack case of that. I don't know. My breast are just so tender and tingle, and my nipples seem like they burn to the touch. My youngest child is 13 months and I stopped pumping for him before he was 2 months old and 2 weeks ago my milk started coming back in big time. So that is bothering me too. I have had people on other forums tell me that its all in my head because I want to be pregnant and that I need to go and see a different kind of doctor. Who knows. I just hope everyone the best of luck and if something happens or I find something out I will let you know. I just can not bring myself to go back to the er. I am thinking I will take a laxative before bed and see if that helps with the pain! Thanks

Well I got sick of the pain that I was in and went to the er. They took a urine pregnancy test and of course it came out negative. So then the dr decided to order and ultrasound and said that it came back normal, no sign of pregnancy and he said that if I was pregnant right now it would be too early for it to show on an ultrasound or on a pregnancy test. He said that I have pms, prescribed me pain meds and sent me home. Thanks for all your support

Well, I'm not sure, have you ever experienced something like this on PMS before?
But, then again, I have no doctorate in any field, so I'd take his word over mine! Glad you went back, and hope all is well!
If the problem persists, be sure to keep us informed! :)

I will do, I did some more extensive research and based on my last "period" which was July 27th, I would have ovulated on the 10th of aug and been fertile from the 7th -12th of August. So, I could have gotten pregnant when I ovulated on the 10th and according to the american system I would be 2 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I am having more and more symptoms every day so we will wait and see if I get my period or not. According to different sites my period should start between the 18th and 26th of aug. if I have not started on the 1st of September at the latest then we will retest. PLEASE send us lots of baby dust!
