Yes, it's bad.
Even worse if you continue to smoke once baby is born.
Here's a link I think you should read.

Research shows that smoking marijuana while pregnant can cause long term mental defects on a fetus. But seeing as how marijuana is illegal anyway it would be the smart, responsible decision to NOT smoke while you are pregnant. Also think of the example you will set for your child.

Okay just asking, but in my opinion drinking while pregnant is worse then smoking because how many deaths have you heard happen from drinking.. a lot.. and smoking 0, none, zip, zero.

How old are you?
You're kidding, right?
Smoking causes more deaths then drinking, do the research, you'll be shocked!
Second hand smoke, first hand smoke. Ever heard of lung cancer? Do you know how many people die from lung cancer every year?
If you're talking about the death of a fetus, drinking and smoking both cause problems to the fetus, sadly most of the effects aren't noticed until after the child is born.
If you're thinking either or, then don't get pregnant. No smoking, no drinking, not if you want what's best for your unborn child. It's only 9 months, certainly you can stay away from drugs for that long.

Why would you do something that could harm your baby? If you can't be responsible enough to make healthy decisions for your baby then you should'nt be having unprotected sex. I know you don't even know if you are pregnant but if you find out you are then I hope you can stay away from drugs and alcohol. You really should think about getting on some kind of birth control.

Altenweg: Age has nothing to do with this. And if you could read I was talking about MARIJUANA, deffinatly not ciggarrets. I DO NOT drink by the way.(alcoholism runs in the family not my thing)
And if I'm pregnant I deffinatly wouldn't smoke ciggarretes But, yes like I said deaths caused by alcohol a lot. Marijuana. Zero,0, none. So what's more dangerous. And if marijuana is used for medical reasons, helpful for nauseua and deff not harmful to me? No scientist can prove its bad for a person to smoke it. Did you know that the reason that scientist say marijuana causes brain cell loss is because the put a gas mask on a monkey and blew 60 jays worth of weed in to the monkeys lungs. I bet that would hurt a monkey. I'd love to meet a human who can take that in one hit. Its impossible. Hmm there's a movie you should watch called "the union".
Both of you how can doing something that does not harm me harm a baby?

Fine, do it, when your baby has long term health defects don't come crying to us.
It's illegal for a reason, think about that.
And yes, your age has everything to do with it, because you're obviously not old enough to think about anyone but yourself.
I really hope you're not pregnant, because I already feel sorry for this baby.
I have to wonder why you asked the question if you already think you know the answer.

You think your OB will give you a prescription for it?
no scientist can prove its bad for a person to smoke it.
They already have.
And it's illegal.

Did I say I would? I'm not an addict I can quit for 9 months.
(its impossible to be an addict for weed no withdrawl symptoms)
But answer me this if marijuna can be used for a ton of things not just medical then why is it so bad, people don't die off weed. Ever.

Did you read the link I posted?
Why not ask you OB what he/she thinks.
It's your body, your baby, your decision, we can give you the truth, the answers, but only you can follow our advice.

First of all, you may not get morning sickness when pregnant. I never had it with two pregnancies. The women I know who had morning sickness didn't suffer much or very long. It's over with in two months, if that.
If any OB gives out marijuana prescriptions for morning sickness, he needs his head examined. There is absolutely no reason for pain meds during morning sickness. The ways to avoid it or to lessen it are simple and don't involve hurting the baby or doing something illegal.

If you're looking for someone to tell you "Sure! It's ok! Go ahead!" then I don't think you're going to have much luck.
Plenty of women have smoked marijuana while they were pregnant. Plenty of those children were born OK (so far). But why would you want to take a chance that your child wouldn't be one of the OK ones? If (God forbid) your child was born with a birth defect would you want to spend the rest of your life knowing that it might not have happened if you didn't get stoned while you were pregnant?
Getting high while pregnant is one of the most incredibly selfish things you can do. When your desire to get high outweighs your desire to do the best possible things you can do for your child, then it means that you're not ready to have a baby.
If you're nauseous, eat a cracker.

Couple things... Inhaling the smoke can't be doing you any good. Plus, if you get caught, it's going to be real bad... However, having said that, marijuana hasn't been proven to do any harm, to anyone, pregers or not.

Aside from the evidence that has already been given to you.
In New York they are doing placenta tests when mothers give birth and if there are any toxins (drugs) present in the placenta, the child is placed in the CPS system.A person could lose their child as a result.
Why would you risk the health of your child for a buzz?
You don't know what other drugs the weed may have been laced with and ,is it REALLY worth the risk?
Smoking anything in pregnancy deprives the fetus of oxygen, causing low birth rate which in turn can cause other problems at birth and after.
Infections, respiratory distress, and the list goes on.
There are numerous medical potentials for pot,I agree but just as you would not give a baby an antidepressant ,you should not expose them to weed.
Antidepressants are helpful but not for everyone!

Then go to California and smoke while you're pregnant and find out if there are health problems. I can promise you're not going to convince anyone that has already responded to you that its "okay" to smoke marijuana while you're pregnant. Someone who is obviously immature should not be having unprotected sex. Nothing you can do about it if you are pregnant now, except make good and healthy choices for your child. But if your not already pregnant please go get some birth control. There are enough kids with pot head mothers running around that my taxes pay for. We don't need more.

Love you tons Exy, but I disagree.
If you grow your own then I agree, it's not harmful to you, other then the smoke which can cause cancer, just like cigarettes.
But, while pregnant, not only are you risking lower birth rate (at 17 the OP will probably already have a low weight baby) but you're also risking the long term health of your child.
Also, most people don't grow their own, so you never know what you're really getting.
It's 9 months, not long at all. Anyone that can't even commit to 9 months of change isn't ready to have a child.
That's my opinion.

I have a question.
When the baby is born, will you give it a joint? Will you let it smoke with you? Of course you'd probably have to wait until it's old enough, I'd say 1, maybe 2.
Will you sit around with your baby and smoke a joint?

Why is gay marriage okay in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa, but not in other states?
In this country, there is something called states' rights. It's up to each state to make laws to govern its citizens. Medical marijuana (not pot smoking, yet) might be legal in California, but it is not legal in other states.

True, and it's not that bad.
I had morning sickness with my daughter. I don't know why they call it morning sickness, it was 24/7, lasted around 6 weeks then I was fine.
Even through the worst of it, it wasn't that bad. Having a cold is worse, IMO.
The OP just wants the okay to do what she wants to do. She hasn't even experienced morning sickness yet, heck, she doesn't even know if she's pregnant yet.
This is only about one thing, what the OP wants, not what the child needs.

Why start the thread if it was never an issue?
Also, the internet isn't always reliable.
The Union, maybe, but it won't change my mind.
Yes, back then women had babies at 14. Do you know what the survival rate was, of both mother and baby? It wasn't good. Chances were you'd die during child birth, not only because of lack of medical care but because of the age of the mothers.
Also, at 17, you're way to young to have a child. You can't support yourself, or the child, it's not very likely that your boyfriend will stick around. Why go through all of this if you don't have to?
But hey, you're 17, you know everything. I'm 38, lived through 17 and all the years since then, so what do I know?

Watch the little mermaid. It's a good movie too. You can't trust the internet OR what a movie says is OK. And if you were'nt going to smoke why would you ask? AND you at 17 havve a job where you make more than 30k a year? Own a house? Own a car? Have a husband? All good things to think about before having a baby. This isn't the 1800's.

I smoke but I never did it pregnant and I never would.I know people who did and I think their kids are a little messed up!
Seriously.
Ginger ale and saltine crackers at your bedside before you even get up is my recommendation.
Also if you are seriously sick with morning sickness(if that is your excuse) than talk to your doctor ,there are drugs that are prescribed if you have debilitating sickness.
My adopted grandbaby weighed 2lbs.and 13 oz. at birth. Her mother tested positive for marijuana. It was in the baby's bloodstream.
She is now two yrs.old and still playing catch up.Thankfully, she has a new mother,Grandma! The real Mom has never come back to see her daughter.
Don't be a statistic!

Artsy, my cousins wife smoked marijuana during her pregnancy. The baby was under 4 pounds, born 1 week early. She has problems with her vision, the doctors are pretty sure it was due to marijuana use.
She is 22 now, dumb as a post (love her but it's true), her eyes are screwed up beyond repair. She can see but is still considered legally blind. She'll never drive, she works but will never have a career or a well paying job.
She will always have to depend on someone else, just because mom only thought about herself for those 9 months. :(

That is why when people say there is no proof, there isn't because studies don't follow up.
Now with the placenta testing in NY there will be a follow up of these kids and then someone will be able to say, conclusively that smoking pot is dangerous to the fetus .
A drug is a drug is a drug!
I smoke maybe a few times a week and no ill effects so I am not anti weed at all! Helps me sleep.Helps my pain, better than opiates. But not while pregnant!
