Hi all

Im new to this forum and I have a big problem. My Central air keeps shutting off. The blower inside the house will stay on but every once in a while the outside unit will just shut off completely no hum or anything. It seems to only happen on the hot days like we are having now. If I go out and spray the coils down with a hose it will turn back on within 5 minutes after I'm done spraying.

I had a tech come out in May because it wasn't cooling the house very well. He came and said that my frion levels were low. He said he had found the leak and filled the frion. It worked great and still does until now the unit will shut off and make the house warm up. Im pretty mechanical savy just don't know much about these units. Any info would be great!

Thanks

Do you have a multi tester?
When it is in the down mode check for low voltage power at the contactor, the points where the 2 smaller tstat wires hook to the contactor,, if u have 24 volts,is the contactor pulled in,you can tell this buy checking for 230 volts at the points where the wires come out and go to the fan and compressor,, (BE VERY CAREFULL)or you`ll get the shock of your life,
