I asked a question about Guido Reni in my previous post but forgot to ask if the signature on the lower corner of the picture resembled that of Reni.

Without anything to compare it to, how would we know the answer to your questions ?

Is there such a thing as a catalogue of artist signatures- especially the old ones?

Possibly in a major art gallery or museum. I don't think you could access this on line though. You would have to do some research and foot work.

What you have is not a painting but an etching of a Guido Reni paintinting of Mary Magdalene. These were d after the original painting was painted and copied off metal plates in bulk... perhaps a few hundred.. your etching is probably worth $2,000 and is from the mid 1800s... the original painting was painted in the 1630s.
