Google can probably help. I hack my first Computer about 1973, about 14 years old.
We had a handset, put it on a carrier, and it connected with Reno. It had a tape that punched out. We went told not to worry about the tape, but found it interesting and did the alphabet, line feed, carriage return, rubout, etc.
Noticed it didn't advance the line feed prior to password.
Just ran the tape through and advanced manually, and password was their.
Once I saw the Password, it was a no brainer?
Our password for day school was Sunrise, the password for night school, I found out was Sunset.

I don't know if this will help
Hacking wasn't always illegal. I started in what they call "phone phreaking" in the late 70s. This is the same hobby Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had. At this time, 1978, there were no laws against hacking. The first law that criminalized hacking was passed in 1980 in California. I was doing this before it was illegal. And my interest was entertainment—the pursuit of knowledge, challenge and the trophy of the stolen information. There was no motive for money or malicious intent to use, disclose or destroy the data.
