What's FiFa?

I assume it's not Fédération Internationale de Football Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifa) :)

The FIFA that you're talking about stands for fieri facias and it is usually abbreviated fi. Fa. However most people abbreviate it as FIFA. It's a lien that is filed in the county in which you own property usually after a judgment has been entered against you in a legal action for debt or damages.

Have you received a copy of it? The first thing you should do is ask for a copy of the FIFA to see where it came from - where you involved in a lawsuit at some point? It may have come out of a default judgment - or it may be a tax lien.

Either way, you want to see where it comes from so you can make sure that it is you. I know you're saying it's against your house, but let's say you have a common name and the lien was filed against your house believing that you were someone else. Just double-check it. If it something you know about then you will have to pay it before you can refinance - however I would try to contact the creditor and ask for a reduced payment in order to release the lien. You might get lucky and the person might just negotiate with you.

Good luck!

You will basically have to pay off that lien before it can be taken off. Or some payment arrangement with the lender. Or of course you can prove the debt is not yours and was filed by error
