Am I elgible to be emancipated? My mom doesn't care about me or at least if she does she doesn't show it in way. She makes me feel horrible about myself and all I do is try to help her be happy. She is getting married at the end of the year to a man she met online he has 3 kids and she has 2. we have barely anymoney any money we get she spends on her "new" family. All she does is yell at me. Nothing I do is right and I feel that I would do better in school and be happier if I was on my own. I am planning to go to college and become a pharmacist. But its hard doing good in school with all of the stress because all I do is cry. She makes me pay her for my phone bill and its really hard because I'm not old enough to have a job yet but in 7 months I can get one. She treats my little sister and her boyfriends children like they are angels but acts like I'm a child from hell please help me in anyway possible to get emancipated!!

You have a phone?? How did you get that? Is it a contract phone or pre-paid? How much do you use it?

Did she insist you have one, or did you ask for a phone?

1. Did your sister get one before you did, or after?
2. Who pays your sister's phone bill?
3. Why did your sister get one?
4. Contract or pay-as-you-go?

When you begged for one, and were told you had to pay for it and not get into trouble in order to keep it, what went through your mind? How did you plan to pay for it?

You're avoiding my question -- "When you begged for one, and were told you had to pay for it and not get into trouble in order to keep it, what went through your mind? How did you plan to pay for it?"

Big articles lately in magazines and newspapers that kids under 16 have cell phones and they have no business with one. To use for what?

Why aren't you supposed to be on here?

In order to be emancipated, you have to be able to support yourself with a place to live and have money for food and clothes. If you can't even pay for a cell phone, I'm guessing you are ineligible for emancipation.

You begged for a cell phone, agreed to pay for it, and your mom got you one, and now you are backing out on the deal? You DO have to pay for it; that was your agreement.

Do you call friends on it?

I am going to go with "no, you are not eligible". Like Wondergirl said... if you cannot afford to pay for your phone (probably only part of a phone plan also... ) then you do not have the means to support yourself.

First of all, how horrible are your parents that they require that you pay for your own cell phone. What cruelty!! In case you don't get I'm being VERY sarcastic.

A cell phone is not a right. Many parents require that their children pay for their phones.

As for getting emancipated, not all states allow for emancipation. Those that do, require the child show they are capable of caring for themselves without any help or supervision. So you would need to prepare a case to prove that.

I am sorry your mother isn't treating you well. That has to be miserable for you. Have you tried telling her you would like to speak to her about your relationship with her? Maybe you are assuming too much. I found it was always helpful when my children would tell me they wanted to speak to me alone, and we would go have lunch somewhere or go to a park, and sit and talk. I had no idea I treated my kids the way I did, withouth them communicating with me. My disposition came from having too much on my plate, in life in general. By communicating and not guessing why your mom treats you badly, it will open up a whole new door for your relationship with her.

It sounds like your mom has taken on a lot with additional children coming into her life. Perhaps you are feeling left out because you are the oldest of the children?

My advice would be to talk this out with your mother before you totally cut off all ties with her.

My mother passed away in 1992 and there isn't a day that goes by, that I wish she was here for me to talk to still.

Communication is the key, sweetie. It starts with you taking the first step and asking your mom for some private time with her. You have nothing to lose at this point, since you are already wanting to be separated from her... so take that first step and open the line of communication. ;)

You have a cell phone, you have to pay for it and you're complaining?

My kids won't be allowed a cell phone until they have a job. We have a land line, they can make calls using that phone, they don't need a cell.

I don't even have a cell phone.

Having a cell phone is not a right.

You say in one post, When I am 16. That tells me you ar3e only 15 years old and not legal age.

You can't do what you are requesting. The courts will have you put in foster care or even a reform school if you rebel.

Do you have Grandparents that are willing to take you?
