My husband died at work. The sheriff came to tell me in the morning as my husband worked grave yard and I work @Disneyland during the day. I was waiting for my car as the sheriff drove up to give me the news of my husbands death.

Now I am living on one income and I am asking is there such a thing as Social Security benefits for survivors. I know about widowers benefits, however I make too much. On the internet it said you can collect reduced benefits on his social security. Is this so? I do have an appointment with SSI on Monday.

I need Help I don't want to lose my house. My mortgage is more than I make I need all money resources any ideas? My husband and I bought our home in 1986. We worked hard to make our payments on time. PLEASE HELP! Oh I am 61 years old if you needed that information.

I am also a widow - I am sorry for your loss.

My understanding is that you can collect the larger of the two SS benefits, either yours or his.

There are restrictions concerning your age. Here's a very good, easy to read, informative site: Social Security Online: Widows, Widowers & Other Survivors: Qualify and Apply (http://www.ssa.gov/ww&os2.htm).

Again, my sympathy on your loss.

I agree with Judy. The larger of the two SS benefits.

Also check any work Pension and Life Insurance Policies. Even work ones. I had one at work, that coverd me at 2x my annual salary as long as I was working.
