I'm in the process of repainting one of my dressers. I have prepped the surface properly (sand down, clean well) and applied a good primer but it still looks as though the paint may end up peeling or scraping off easily... Is there a product out there that I can apply on top of the paint to prevent this from happening? Thanks! :)

The only kind of paint I use is Rustoleum oil based paint. It does not flake or peel no matter what surface I paint it on. It does have limited color selection but what do I care, most of what I want painted is white anyway. I use at least 2 coats and the object does not peel even the outdoor lawn furniture I have does not peel. I also painted some plastic outdoor chairs with the Rustoleum oil paint (2 coats) and they repel the rain just fine. I use the Rustoleum paint indoors as well as it cures very hard. I use it on metal with good results as well.
I tried all kinds of paint and find that this Rustoleum works just great on any surface. The only problem is it is an oil based paint and I get paint on my hands that has to wear off. No big deal. I also paint wearing old clothes and old shoes.

By the way, I have already repainted the dresser with a latex base paint so I would need something to prtect that kind of finish

You could just put one coat of Rustoleum over the latex paint already on the dresser. I've repainted my back porch several times with latex paint. Then last year I repainted over the latex paint with the Rustoleum. No problems, no peeling, water beads up just fine on the flat spaces. I did not scrape away the old latex paint - just painted over it.

Hi, djmonkey007!
If you use an oil-based paint over a latex, then the oil-based paint is very likely to crack, over time because the latex will expand and shrink with the temperature and weather, whereas the oil will not.
If you're wanting to protect what you've already painted with a clear-coat of some kind, then I would recommend an acrylic, water-based paint.
I do wonder why you think that "it still looks as though the paint may end up peeling or scraping off easily."
Would you please explain that to me? A couple of the things that I do for a living, is that I'm a professional house painter and refinisher.
Thanks!
