The caulk we used 6 years ago when we installed our shower has "disappeared". During that time, some mildew would collect also. Now we are left with a gap between the shower basin and the shower door which has resulted in water getting on the floor and we now have some wood rot. Soooooooooo, what is the best caulk for our project? Thanks in advance.

In your case: Silicone caulk, like 50 year GE / Home Depot

Do it when you come back from vacation. That's because the area to be caulked has to be DRY. Any presence of moisture will repell the caulk. Clean with Denaturated Alcohol first. Apply bead of caulk. Clean with D.A. again.

Yes, you can use Latex based / water clean up caulks, like DAP or ALEX / Home Depot - but they don't last as long as silicone. But, they apply better, are water soluble and may be easier for you to use. Also, they may be applied over somewhat moist surfaces.

If you want it too look good, pactice the application on piece of wood first.

Pure silicon such as GE Silicone II is the best way to go, Thanks.
