If you have names, your search is already easier.

First off--how old are you? Were you adopted as an infant?

What information have your adoptive parents been able to give you?

Try myspace if you haven't already, and there are some websites out there that you can type in someone's name and find there address and phone numbers. My mother does it all the time, I can ask her what it's called tomorrow if you would like. Good Luck!! :D

Have you registered at reunion websites, such as adoption.com, adoption.org, and ISSR?

That would be a good step.

You can also contact the adoption agency used (if there was one) and leave a letter there for your birth parents.

You can also contact the county where you were fostered and leave a letter at the courthouse with your records to be given to your birthparents if they ask about you.

Two things I would like to comment on, though:

1. If you were in foster care at the age of one, and adopted shortly afterwards---the likelihood is that your birth parents didn't CHOOSE adoption for you: You were probably taken by the state. For parental rights to be severed to an infant, something seriously wrong had to be going on--are you sure you want to contact these people?

2. Not all birthparents WANT contact. If you've already registered at reunion websites, ESPECIALLY since you know her name, you may be dealing with birthparents that do not want to be found.

I'm not telling you to stop your search--just to be very careful that you don't set yourself up for disappointment.
