Hi, I'm Azim Hossain, from Bangladesh. I have come here with J1 visa, student non degree category. Do I have to pay US taxes?

Thanks
Azim

Azim:

You ARE liable for income taxes on jobs you take to help you offset expenses while being a student in the U.S.

However, your J-1 student visa makes you exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes for up to five calendar years.

You must pay federal income tax and state income tax. Your income is not subject to SS tax and Medicare tax. You must file nonresident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843.
