I have a 1-story home with a completely finished basement. The bath and bedroom downstairs are next to one another. When the bathroom is used several times, the bedroom, closet and hallway spring a leak. I thought it was the drain pan under the tile shower, but someone has told me it could be a leak in the pipe beneath the slab. How do I find out without busting up the entire floor? The bathroom is all tile. It's causing a mold problem and I need to find, once and for all, where the problem is coming from. The house is about 36 years old.

When the bathroom is used several times, the bedroom, closet and hallway spring a leak Please explain what you mean by "used"? When what's used? Toilet? Bath? Shower? What? I need more information.
Does it leak when nothing's draining or flushed? In other words is it a steady leak?
If the answer's no then it's doubtful you have a pipe that leaking under the slab.
The shower's the most likely culprit. Is it a tile or a manufactured base and enclosure? Let's check it out. Remove the shower strainer and stuff a baggie filled with damp rags to seal off the drain. Now run the shower until you have a inch or so of water. Let it set for a few hours and check for moisture. Let me know what you find. Good luck, tom
