OK, me again.

I am finally doing the finish work on by master bath. I am having a problem with the tub drain. I have plumbers putty under the flange and tighened with the handle of a wrench.

Took the drain apart, more putty, tighten again, got another 1/4 turn out of it.

Any secret to this? I am thinking I need a drain wrench to really crank it but I do not want to break something like I usually do ;)

Did you install the rubber gasket under the lip with the putty? If so remove it and install it on the tub shoe under the tub. (see image) Good luck, Tom

I installed the rubber on the shoe under the tub. Just like the drawing.

About the only other things are a cross thread on the drain not letting the drain seat correctly or the tub shoe's cocked a little. What are you using to tighten the drain? Tom

I have been using the handle of a wrench. I was wondering if it was cocked. I did not losen the overflow when I screwed it in the second time

It seats fine, and it throws all the plumbers putty out. No putty end up on the bottom though.

Do you think a drain wrench would help? Or it it just a bad position of the shoe?
