It's a Bolens GT180 Model 3118G
SN 0100553
With a Briggs and Stratton engine Md 422707

I got it to start by putting a new coil in but now the battery light is on and when I engage the mower deck is shuts the engine off. The safety switch under the seat is jumped.

Hi,
Well, to check the cutting off, isolate the engine from the frame by unplugging thewire to the right of the air cleaner that is on the spade connector fastened to the threaded post (diagram shows blue wire.) That is the ignition ground so safety switches will not cut off the machine, nor will the key switch so be careful. Try the deck. That will tell you if it is a problem with the deck or the wiring.
Battery light is in the wiring. A red w/black stripe wire leaves the engine to provide charging. It joins with a red w/white stripe wire within the harness which attaches to the battery side of the solenoid to provide charging. Another wire for the voltage indicator should also attach there. There should be about 14.5V DC there at full throttle if charging. I would measure it at the solenoid first. If you have the correct voltage there, check the wiring for the indicator. If not head toward the engine to find the open or problem circuit. It could be the alternator, rectifier or a wire.
Schematic attached. I found a manual, but it is too large to post here. I can email it to you if you are allowed to receive 3Mb attachments, or we could find another way.
Peace,
Clarke
PS I have them as pictures also.
