We are looking to put an offer in on a house located in Austin Texas. Before we take the plunge we want to know what it would cost to add a 1/2 bathroom. The home is on a slab foundation. We would be adding the bathroom to an existing space, about 6 feet away from the existing bathroom. The plumbing would need to extended across the floor of the existing bathroom and into the wall of the new bathroom. Is there a general formula for figuring out the cost for this? I was told that square ft of proposed bathroom X $200.00 is a rule of thumb when dealing with a slab foundation.

Thanks for all thoughts and info.

Many factors enter to a remodel or a add on. Might just as well add a shower while you're at it.
The type of fixtures that will be used, The local labor costs, union or nonunion? The difficulty in installing the drainage, (You would have to jackhammer up the slab) Plus all the tile, carpentry work, paint, electrical, etc. all figure into the mix.
Your best bet would be to put out bids and get three estimates from local contractors. Good luck, tom

When we add, we try not to go across the house, if possible. It is cheaper if you can locate drain on the outside and see if you have enough slope to connect to it. As Tom said, it is hard to estimate due to many factors. Usually, the smaller the addition, the costlier it it.

Draw a sketch, call 5 contractors and have them to submit to you a bid for the job. Then, you will get the starting point.
