View Full Version : Honda Civic 98 Hatchback Idles High & Low at Start Up

Car worked find until car sat for 3 weeks (was out of town)--it would not start. Sounded like it wanted to, but it would not turn over. Took it to Pep Boys, and they gave me a new battery, and it still wouldn't start. Then they put in I think a starter coil, then it started. Now it idles high & low at start up, but idles fine once taking it out of the Park gear. So they said it needed an idle air control value at a price of $328, so I declined on that. I can't figure out why it worked fine before I left for out of town, and now it has all these problems. Please let me know what you think. Thanks...

Clean the IACV, throttle plate, and throttle body, per this link:

This should solve the problem and cost almost nothing. Afterwards, clean the air box and replace the air filter.
