We are adding a 12x24 addition to my house. The new footings are about 1 foot deeper than the house's current footing. Will I have any problem if I don't underpin the 24 foot section of footing?

No as long as the new addition is not a basement. If so and its below the other footing its better to pour a step wall from higher footer to the lower basement floor.
If this new footer is perpendicular to the old then now worries. It's the same as a stepped footer

Yes the new footer is perpendicular to the old footer. The footing and new basement floor are already poured. Will I have problems and what should I do now?

The old footer is about 4 1/2 feet below grade and the new footer is about 5 1/2 feet below grade.

When I figure out how to watch a thread I won't do a stupid reply like this...
But isn't a single foot of difference almost exactly like a stepped footing?

Again if the perpendicular footer is stepped down from original and backfilled then no problems. If the old house footer is exposed the 24' length and the ground beside that dropped a foot then a 1 foot wall beside the old to encapsulate the dirt that exposed under the old footer.
