I feel my HIPPA rights have been grossly violated. I can't find attorney's in my state of Ark. Who practice in this area. I had an ER nurse who left me in a blind hall and went out to the waiting room and said things to my stepfather and his son that was character destructive. I had said when admitted that my health was not to be discussed with anyone without my written permission for each incident and then only in my presence. My stepfather who hates me has caused me great heartache over my illness. I am an RN and I have talked to the DHS office and they said "sue". But, I can't get an attorney in this state. I also had a surgeon who invaded my HIPPA rights and caused all kinds of problems with my care. My GP refused to allow me to see him again because he even upset my GP greatly with the violation of my rights which I wrote out plainly on my HIPPA admission at the hospital. Arkansas doctors and ER for the most part do not abide by the privacy issues.
How can I get an attorney to hear me and take my case.

It sounds like you are talking about two different issues, character AND medical issues. You can sue for them discussing medical issues because that is HIPAA.
As far as them talking about your character, unless you have mental issues that fall under your medical problems, that is not HIPAA.
BUT if you suffered financial loss because of it you can get them for defamation of character IF what they said was not true.

I know that some lawyers seem intimidated by some 'places' like DHS, hospitals and places that 'you don't sue' because they are bigger than life itself. You have to keep looking for a good lawyer that will take your case.
I know Edgar Snyder and James Ecker are lawyers in my area that take this type of case. You need lawyers that specialize in taking this type of case.
