I live in Iowa and share my house with my boyfriend. We are separating. The house is in my name. How do I legally ask him to leave. He will not leave simply by asking.
We have lived together for over two years. He has made house payment and so have I
He makes more money than me so he has paid more of the utilities also.

Is his name on the deed or the mortgage or anything? Are you both on it?
If your names are both on it one of you may have to just cut your loses and chalk it up to expenses you would have had to pay anywhere else anyway.

If his name isn't on anything then you give him a written eviction for the amount of days your state requires. After that if he still hasn't left you get a court ordered eviction

If the deed and mortgage ( or lease) is in your name, you give him a written notice to move out in 30 days, if he does not move out, you file an eviction in housing court.
