My Toshiba laptop doesn't recognize the cdrom drive. It used to work and one day a tried to play a dvd and it didn't do anything. The drive doesn't even show up under hardware. I wanted to download the software to get wireless internet and I can't because of the cdrom drive. So I am using my sisters computer to ask for help on this site. Does anyone know what can possibly help me?

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any Software or Hardware that you installed or setup.

The drive doesn't even show up under hardware.

It is not showing up in device mgr?

Check your BIOS to see if it is being seen there
-Usually for Toshiba it is F2 during boot

Start laptop and when you see toshiba splash screen. Hit the F2 key and you should come up to the BIOS

Don't change anything, but look to see if the cd rom drive is listed there

At this point, look for the option to reset BIOS defaults and say OK

PC should restart

Check to see if seen in windows explorer
