So did Atlantis, Babylon and many other ancient cultures but look at them now.

Atlantis? You're joking, right?

We owe an awful lot to Roman law. In fact, our own jurisprudential tradition is just a continuation of Roman law. We'd be pretty well screwed without it.

So I wouldn't be too dismissive.
