I have 2 German Shepherd pups about 8months old. I have had them since birth and when they were able to eat food started them off with Science diet puppy food. One of them had loose stools so I changed there food slowly to Nutro Natural Choice Puppy, still the same one had loose stools the other ones stools were OK. I then had her checked for worms and parasites and when the test came up negative the vet suggested I feed her rice and cottage cheese for 4-5 days. When I fed that to her the stools became firmer, but as soon as I put her back on the food the stools were loose again. I then switched them to Natures Recipe with no soy, corn or wheat. Now both of them have loose stools and they have been tested again for parasites, taken medicine just in case the parasites weren't showing and nothing... still loose stools! The vet has now had me put them both on rice and cottage cheese for 2 1/2 - 3 weeks and then we will slowly add ingredients to see if they are allergic to something. The problem is they have been on the rice and cottage cheese for 4 days and there stools are still loose but now they are bright yellow/orange. The vet said to keep them on it for at least a week then call him, but I am getting really concerned. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

German Shepherds have very delicate digestive systems. Finding a food that they will eat and digest is often tricky and requires time. I feed my 2 parts eagle pack and 1 part benaful healthy weight. His old food was on the recall list and it tooks a couple of months for me to get this. Keep in touch with your vet to be sure . My vet recemmends boiled ground beef or boiled chicken with rice to help with the loose stools. Once you find a brand that works stay with it as any change will disrupt their digestive system. Good Luck.

Canned pumpkin can help firm up stools. I feed a grain-free dry food and mix in a little pumpkin if they get runny (from begging.) The vet recommended puppy chow I came home with gives them the runs. Rice doesn't work for everyone.
