I am trying to replace the main water valve to my house and all joints soldered properly execpt the last one to the house. I can't seem to get the copper hot enough to get the solder to flow properly, any suggestions?

You have water in the pipes.
You don't have a tap nearby open.
Joints are not clean.

As Kiss pointed out. The line MUST be clear of all moisture. How it works is You apply heat to the largest fitting at the under side and hold the tip of your solder on the opposite side from the flame. When the solder melts and runs move the tip of the solder around the joint and let capillary action do the rest. Good luck, tom

If there is no drain point below where you are working stick a length of small plastic tubing down the pipe and suck the water out. It's the same water you drink anyway.
