My toilet is backing up into the bathtub. I tried putting a snake down the toilet and there is nothing, however, the toilet is still clogged.

Hi Hammer...

Possible that you didn't go far enough!

Is this toilet and tub the lowest fixture in the house.. If so, you may have a MAIN DRAIN clog and that would require you to open up the main drain cleanout (near foundation wall inside or outside) and snake the drain from there. Flood the pipes after the clenaout is removed to confirm that water backs up and out the cleanout (as long as lower than tub).

For a main drain you will need a minimum 1/2" cable machine... see image. You can rent these at any local tool rental store. Purchase some goggles and leather gloves to make the work safe.

If these aren't the lowest fixtures in the home then it is possible that you went right through the clog. I've certainly done that a number of times. The toilet could also be clogged INSIDE the toilet from *STUFF* that backed into it while the large line was clogged.

Let us know what you know...
