Our toilet caulking keeps pulling away from the toilet with wax spreading next to the caulking. The toilet has been reset with a new ring, but it has happened again. Any ideas why?

As a rule this only happens when the closet bolts are lose or if the bowl needs to be shimmed because of a uneven floor. Let's have more details. Tom

Thanks Tom. This is a fairly new installed toilet in a basement bathroom. We moved into the home last January (2008), as it was just completed. Soon after moving in, the caulk started pulling away and then we noticed the yellow waxy material pushing out as well. The plumber recaulked it twice, reset it in April (2009) with a new ring, and now the caulk is beginning to pull away again. What other details would help or should we go with your above suggestions. Thanks again... Jo

Good morning Jo,
Did the plumber double seal the bowl? Put your hands on both sides of the bowl and attempt to rock it. If it moves, even a little bit, the toilet needs to be shimmed and leveled. Let me know, Tom

Also, if the wax shows on the outside of the bowl it means there is too much wax ring installed. You could use small, skinny, wax ring instead the fat one.
Use good good caulk. It will not only seal against sewer gas and moisture, but also, it will hold toilet to the floor eliminating rocking motion...
