Months ago I bought expensive concert tix with a close friend for an upcoming Saturday night concert on 7/25 that we've been looking forward to. While forgetting the exact date of this concert, last month I booked a weekend getaway with my girlfriend for that same weekend. I realized the date conflict only this morning.

Everything has been purchased for both events, but I still owe my friend the money for the tix.

I don't see my friend very often because he is busy raising his family. I see my girlfriend all the time, but we've been planning this trip for a few weeks and its price is higher.

My inclination is to call my friend tonight, let him know what I did and apologize for f-ing up and send him a check for my ticket, especially if he can't find someone else to buy in on short notice, or possibly offer him the amount of both tix considering it's my f-up.

Crap, this was dumb. Is there a graceful way to do this?

That sounds like a very graceful way of bowing out.I am sure your friend will understand and your making amends in a very civil way.

Sounds graceful to me. Just be honest with him. Give him enough notice to find someone else. Otherwise, you can write him a check for the ticket.

We all make mistakes and yours was an honest one. I think your doing the right thing.

Sounds like a good plan, most friends are understanding

Look just tell him how it is, because what's done is done and you know if you go with him your girlfriend will B****and complaine. And won't let go of it. So if he's a true friend hell understand, if not then sux. It is what it is, reality sucks otherwise I'm sure you'd be at both places at once.

Give up the concert ticket. Either write him a check and then sell/give away the ticket, or ask him if he would like to keep it and you owe nothing.
