I have a Trane R22 which was installed (I'm guessing in 1997). The compressor is out in the outside unit. I've been advised to purchase a new R22 Goodman brand as it would be cheaper than replacing the compressor. In terms of cost and quality can the trane be fixed or should I just replace it with an affordable goodman r 22

If unit is that old I usually tell my customers to coincider replacing unit... on the other hand trane is better than goodman. Also if you replace the condenser you should coincider replaceing the air handler/ furnace. That way they are matched and will work properly.
