Dear Team,
I have changed my gmail pwd and I forgot it :( . I used the "forgot pwd" url that sends me an autogenerated mail and directs me to the link to answer my secret question. I do not know the answer to the secret question... let me know step by step that how can I get back my password... I have really important mails in that... request your urgent help...
Many thanks

Did you remember setting up a secondary email account when you sign up gmail? If you do, the link that comes in the secondary email will direct you to a page to reset password.
If not, the only way left is to contact Google but you need to prove to them you are the account holder.

YES, I do have a secondry mail attached to that gmail id. It is on the secondry id that I receive those urls that direct me to the page to ans the secret ques...
The problem is I do not remember the answer to that secret ques also. Is there any way I can ask them to change my seret question or reques them to send a reset pwd on that secondry email id.
Thanks,

I tried to reset my password and received the password recovery email as follows:
=====================
http://www.google.com/accounts/RP?c=(** MASKED OFF **)
If clicking the link above doesn't work, please copy and paste the URL in a
new browser window instead.
If you've received this mail in error, it's likely that another user entered
your email address by mistake while trying to reset a password. If you didn't
initiate the request, you don't need to take any further action and can safely
disregard this email.

I clicked on the link and it immediately brought me to a screen to reset my password. There is no secret question to choose.
You may like to try again. Looks like you have to contact Google
One note: if you managed to recover your password, do log in and try out a new security recovery method introduced by Google not too long ago. You can now have the recovery code sent to your mobile phone as SMS instead.
Good luck.

Thanks a lot for promptly replying to my questions and clarifications. Its great to hear that you were directly sent to the reset password page rather than being sent to the "ans secret ques page". Hope this works for me too. Meanwhile I have been searching for the solution of my problem through Google also... and I have read somewhere that I might need to wait for 5 days for the link (that sends you directly to the reset pwd page) is sent in an email. I haven't tried to log in from Saturday onwards... and I have clicked the link "unable to answer the secret question." So just want to give it a try that something like your case may also happens to me and I get a similar mail.
Lets see...
Really appriciate you help... but will bother you again if nothing comes up by this Friday... :)
