View Full Version : A/C copper Line Repair

1. Can I solder a pin hole in copper line using regular solder or is silver solder required?
2. Pin hole was done during installing unit. Unit was not on so would there be any lose of freon

The freon that's left(if any) will have to be pulled out before the soldering can be done,, the system then vaccumed out,then freon replaced back in unit
Unless you are in the business you won`t have the tools necessary to do it yourself

Freon and fire creates bad awefule gas that can/ will kill you. Think napalm!!

If this was done during instal call the instal company and have them take care of it!

If you were in the military and went through the gas chamber training you experienced it...
Burnt freon turns into phosgene type gas--basically mustard gas it burns the hell out of your lungs and everything else
It has a nasty acidic smell to it

Yes, it can be repaired. Some in the industry have soldered R-22, but many use silver. For 410A silver is the only option.

If you've never done this before I'd call a pro. It won't cost that much to have it fixed but you could easily damage your system if not done right.
