I don't think it's a sign that you did anything wrong. Maybe he just wasn't too sure about it. You could be asking HIM this question you know :P he would be able to give you a better idea of what it means ;) (im not saying you shouldn't have asked hon, don't worrie)

I would suggest you sit down and talk to him about it. Ask him what he was feeling and how it made him feel and ask if he liked it or not, and what he did like about it, what he didn't like, etc. you get the idea :P

Don't ever be embarrassed to discuss things of a sexual nature, it is one of the better conversations that you can have. I had a real good friend that he and his wife could not talk to each other about sex. Both wanted to make love but didn't know how to let the other one know either that or one could not pick up on the actions of the other.

His shock might simply be from not expecting it... I think a good answer would have been, "well honey, I missed you and just wanted to do something I thought would be special for you".
