Woke up in the morning with no air out of the vents, I went outside and saw ice on the unit so I turned off the system. I called a AC tech and he went up and the only solution from him was to buy a new unit upstairs but I can tell the way he said it he wanted to get some money out of me, $1700 to be exact, he said it would be more expensive to buy the motor and board than to replace the unit. I don't have that kind of money just laying around and that's after I had just replaced my outside Condenser unit because it went out with the heat down here in Houston (100+ degrees) I'm not the only one the units are working overtime.

So I told him I would call him later. I talked to my brothers friend who does this work and said to just go buy the parts it won't be more than a couple hundred dollars so I went to Johnson Supply and bought a new Motor, Cap and board for $200, just saved $1300 so far :).

I get home connect everything how it supposed to. I took pictures and diagrams of everything before unplugging any wires. If it wasn't for the heat up in the attic I would have done it in 30 minutes but I was drenched in sweat (my respects to the AC techs).

Everything looked good and it was time to test but nothing , still not working.

1. new Motor (DL1056 AOS 1/2HP 1075RPM 115V)
2. new Cap (10MFD 370V Cap Oval)
3. new Board (ST9141A1002 Honeywell Fan Time)

Things I have tried to do with some research I have done:

1. Jumped the Green and Red from TSTAT, now when I did this all the wires were till connected to the board I just put small wire from G to R.
2. Got the Black wire from motor (cool) HI Speed and connected it to the door switch wire but it didn't turn.
3. I have the TSTAT set at Fan ON and the system OFF if I turn it on the outside unit turns on and I can hear the freon hissing upstairs in the coils so I leave it OFF.

What I think needs testing next but have not tried is:

1. Get a new TSTAT but if jumping the G and R don't turn the fan it might not be the problem
2. Change the wiring from board to TSTAT in case there is a short or damaged wire.
3. Maybe Ground (green wire) from motor is not making contact but I don't know if it matters

This is driving me crazy and currently we setup a borrowed window unit because we have a 2 month old baby and with this heat and really don't want to spend that much money for a new unit and suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you

Why did you replace the board? Was the old board burnt on the back? If so your transformer might be dead...

Oh forgot to mention that, the tech that went installed a new transformer and left it there and he was the one that told be the board was bad so that's why I bought a new one, I was up there with him but I didn't see him test it with anything maybe he just guessed but at least all the parts I have are new unless something came defective.

Sorry I don't have the info on the transformer with me but I looked at it and it was the same specs as the old one. I kept all the parts, nothing has been thrown away.

The other difference is that the Motor that was on originally was a 4 speed and the new one is a 3 speed but they told me that was not a problem everything else was to spec on it.

3 vs 4 is no big deal.
Maybe try making all new connections at tstat and airhandler board. Maybe one of the connections is broke.
I don't think your tstat needs replaced.

Something must have fried if your board, motor, and transformer went bad. Is there any signes of fire in there? I wonder if all those parts were bad to begin with or if tech just wanted to sell a new unit.

I have not seen any burnt parts or any bad smell in the old motor, transformer or board.

Here is the board that I have:
http://www.myhvacparts.com/Catalogue/Printed%20Circuit%20Boards/ST9141A1002%20%20L39-369.jpg

It has a Diagnostic LED light and it Flashes Bright/Dim so supposedly it's Normal Operation

I will rewire the Tstat to the board this evening and also call my brothers friend to give me a hand in trying to figure this out.

But any suggestions from here is really appreciated and anything will help at this point.

Thanks for the quick repsonse.

Remove the wires from board that go to t stat and try jumping the terminals at the board for r and g... if system starts than you issue is mwiring to tstat or tstat.

I will definitely do that before I rewire.

Also, there are two wires connected in the same place where the Tstat wires go, they come from the outside unit, do i also remove those and should I replace those as well just in case, I don't think those are bad because when I turn the tstat to COOL the unit outside turns On and that's when I hear the freon upstairs hissing.

No need to replace them but you could cut them back just to be safe... pull everything when you jumper it just so you know for sure.

OK, my AC is working!! :D

The problem:
OLD motor = 4 Speed has RED - BLACK - BLUE - YELLOW - WHITE - 2 x BROWN

NEW motor = 3 Speed has RED - BLACK - BLUE - YELLOW - 2 x BROWN

The Difference = NO White on the 3 Speed

Error: I didn't look at the diagram on the NEW motor to see what the wires went to I just attached the colors the same as the OLD motor

Solution: The Yellow on the 3 Speed is the same as the White in the 4 Speed which closes the circuit so I just moved the Yellow to where the old White used to be and BAM motor started working

A friend went to help me try and find the problem and 2 heads are better than one

Thanks for all your help, now I know where to go to get good help and fast

How to replace a fan blower motor on the inside unite

I guess it depends on your unit but on mine I removed the front panel then inside there was another panel that I had to remove where the board and transformer were on. Behind that was the motor, it was being held by 2 screws so I removed those and just slid the motor out BUT before you do that make sure the power is OFF and that you document, label or take a picture of where all the wires go to. I took lots of pictures because I had never done this before on an AC and believe me it really helps.

If you know your motor is bad just take it wherever you are going to buy one so they can give you the correct replacement.

I saved lots of money doing it myself but this site helped out a lot.
