Ok so I've been trying to tone up.. my problem area is my hips and butt area. The rest of my body is pretty healthy. What are exercises that I can do to tone up?

I'd recommend working out the obliques. Side crunches etc. They say the rest of your body has to be in good shape before you see any results. As far as the butt goes well that's what I just asked lol.

Bodybuilders have a saying "Abs are built in the kitchen, not the gym" If you have wobble on your tummy, then no amount of sit-ups, crunches or any other ab exercise will it. You'll just end up with very strong stomach muscles hidden by a nice layer of fat.
For this, you need to look at your diet, particularly all the processed food and white carbs.
You also need to do cardio to burn fat. High intensity burns more than low intensity.
In the gym, go for the big compound exercises. You'd think that sit-ups would work your abs best, but when they tested with special equipment, they found that the single best exercise for activating core muscles was the barbell squat. Barbell Squat (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBSquat.html) Plus it hits thighs, glutes, back and pretty much all your body too.
Another good exercise for the butt is the stiffleg deadlift. Stiff Leg Deadlift (AKA Romanian Deadlift) Video & Instructions Video & Instructions | Muscle & Strength (http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/stiff-leg-deadlift-aka-romanian-deadlift.html). Also lunges and step-ups.
