Hi! I am very concern about my CXC exam next year, my class and I all uses this site to practice on past papers the problem is we not thought how to do any of it, our teacher just gave us the papers and leave us, my big sister went to her to find out why she's not teaching, she said she have personal problems and can't concentrate on school, the principal backed her up also, the problem is our parents can't afford a better school, my whole class gather at my house to use my PC because they don't have one, and we are wondering what will become of us, we are students who are willing to be thought. We don't want to end up on the streets stealing or whatever, we want to learn.
With the past papers and your help we are learning but I know our exam will not be the same what would we do, our family is very big my big sister is trying her best our mom is no help (she drinks) I also want to get a good job like my sister but how can I achieve this, we need a teacher to explain things to us, don't gave me wrong this site explain our help topics but you want us to try and we will be willing if we knew what to do.
I hear my sister cry at night because she can't help us with everything and work she's tired but would not admit it, she is the only person working in a family of 10, I try my best to help her, she don't have a personal life she said we are her personal life but I know she is missing out on fun.
Will this be me in a couple of years?
What future do we have?
How can I help my sister to move us out of this area?
How will my younger sisters & brothers cope with these problems?

This is awful! I don't know how old your sister is, but she needs to go over the principal's head. Ask if she can contact the superintendent of schools in your city/county. It's not o.k. for teachers to neglect what they are being paid to do. Also, is there a library near you? Your classmates can use the p.c.s at the library, instead of yours. I hope everything works out. Aside from moving, contacting the superintendent is the best advice I can come up with. Also, maybe you and your sister should join al-ateen to cope with your mom's drinking. I'm glad your sister is looking out for you.
Take care...

Complaining is a waste of time the politician comes to our area during election and promise us everything, after election they forget us as usual, we don't have a library in our area and the church donated the PC to my sister when she did well in school, also mom refuse to admit she have a problem, I sometimes feel to kill myself to get out of this problem, but I study my sister she has more problems than I because she takes care of all of us she is 21yrs, I am 19yrs - 20 in Dec. and the rest of us is just a year/a year and half apart.

I'm wondering what area you are in? If you're in america (does everywhere have school districts?) you've got to get the superintendent involved in this. See if your sister can talk to the other parents as well. Its great that she's helping you guys so much but it shouldn't all be falling on her shoulders. At the very least, the other parents should also be talking to the principal and maybe now the superintendent. There's nothing schools seem to hate more than angry parents.
As for you, keep up the good work. Don't get discouraged. You may have a bad teacher now but you've already figured out how to learn and get help outside the classroom. Just keep doing your best. Maybe you can help your sister in other ways. Make her dinner, help with her chores. Give her a back rub or paint her nails for her just so she can have a chance to relax. She'll appreciate it.

I am from the caribbean, the parents gave up they just take out their children and sent them to work. Its like everyone gave up on school, two of my friends gave up on school to work. They do not have a solid education, I don't want to work in bar, I am not downing bar work but I believe I can do better.

So does that mean there is no school district or superintendent? Even if there's not, it seems like there's got to be someone with more authority than the principal. Your principal must be answering to someone. Would your sister or you be able to find out who?

To my sister the sky is the limit she will go anywhere to help us, but the politician comes to our area hears our problems promise they will help, after they are in power they forget us as usual. This is happening since my sister were going to school in this same school, but she got help from people who were living in our area, they have left because of the way the people are being treated in our area.

Hm. I don't know much (ok, I don't know anything) about your politics. But is writing letters an option?I moved by the fact that you are trying so hard to get a good education and that your sister is doing so much to help you along the way. Writing letters to your local politicians telling them your story and asking for their help might be an option to look at.

I've looked back over your posts. It looks like seventeen other parents have complained about this teacher! You must all band together and approach the school's principal, or his superior as a group. Your voices may be heard if you all go together.

They tried all that that's the reason they gave up, take their children from school and have them working.

Please tell us what you need first, then second, then third.
There are many Internet sites that explain things like grammar or math. Have you tried to use those?

One thing to do would be to email an American newspaper columnist and tell about your problems. You must get this information out into the world audience. Eric Zorn or Richard Roeper who are columnists at the Chicago Sun-Times might write about your situation and find help for you. Unfortunately, the political situation in your country might be a huge problem even for someone who is willing to help.
