How much paint have you chipped off? The top does not lift. There will be two phillips head screws on the console that attach the console to the top of the cabinet. Depending on the age they would be located on the bottom corners on the front or on the bottom corners on the back. The console will lift and hinge to the back. Disconnect the block of wires. There are 2 brass colored clips that hold the back wall to the cabinet. Put a screw driver down the front hole and pop them up. The whole cabinet will then pull towards you pivoting at the bottom. Replace the lid switch.
On the frame of the washer near the back there will be 1 tab per side sticking up. This matches up with a hole in the cabinet when you put it back together. To put the cabinet back on the frame you must put the bottom in first and then it will pivot up towards the back. When the tab and hole line up it properly then the clip to the back wall will fit without a lot of force.
