Yesterday my mother gave my dog a left over sirloin steak bone after dinner while she was taking care of him for the weekend. Early this morning my dog began coughing and gagging a little, no vomit but he is acting very tired... should I wait out his symptoms a little longer and see if he bounces back, or take him to the vet immediately? Are steak bones OK to give dogs?

No no no no
Dog cannot have cooked bones! Cooking bones makes them brittle and they can shatter and pierce the dogs stomach.
Raw beef bones are OK but only if they are large bones that the dog cannot swallow and they must be supervised while they are eating them. Bones that have been left out for more than a few days can also become brittle and shatter.
Watch him very closely for the nect few days. If he does not poop or starts vomiting he needs to go to the vet immediately!

It could make cuts in their stomach and other places inside them, causing bleeding.. my dog throws up every time my dad gives him bones no matter HOW often I tell him not to give Angus bones. It's really dangerous for internal bleeding!
