After removing the leaking toilet and preparing to install the new wax ring, I noticed that the upper surface of the drain pipe is irregular and jagged. It extends above the level of the floor in most places. Do I need or want to grind it down before installing the new wax ring? The toilet sat on the concrete slab and when I replace the linoleum tile, it won't be very thick so I'm thinking that having the height of the pipe be the same as the floor is OK. Am I correct? Here is a picture to show the jagged edge. I'm pretty sure there is a decent flange buried under the dirt/plaster. The pipe is cast iron and it is probably 65 years old. The toilet had lots of plaster (or powdery old wax) underneath. There are also hairline cracks on the base of the toilet but the outflow hole looks okay.
