Has any one done this? I am wanting to tile my shower (walls and floor) and just tore out the base of the shower... still having troubles removing my drain (already posted a question for this) but I want to make sure that on a second floor putting mortar down is OK? Any suggestions??

Hi Shorty, yes, it is just fine in do mortar on 2nd floor. However, there is a certain process you have to follow in installing shower pan. Have you ever done this before ? Do you plan on Hot Mop, install PVC liner, or pre-fab shower pan ?

No I have never done this before, right now I am working on extending the drain pipe as the previous shower drain will not work for this application. I also need to build the front of the bed, install the pvc liner, wire mesh, mortar, etc. How thick should the sub floor be inorder to support the weight?

Since you never built a pan from scratch you might be a great candidate for this system. Shower Systems - Schluter-Systems (http://www.schluter.com/143.aspx)

That really is a great system... huh Bob? They have a great video showing how to install it at their website!

Great suggestion!
