Hi all,

I have windows xp professional installed on my desktop computer and windows vista home premium on my laptop. My desktop can access shared files and folders on my vista laptop, but my laptop can't access the XP computer.

When I click on Network on the vista laptop, or even when I try to map the network drive on the XP computer, I get an error message stating:

\\(Computer Name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon requested.

I have disabled simple file sharing on the desktop, and tried everything. Even googling the problem, but no luck... Can somebody please help me??

The computer that is providing the message "No logon servers available......" is looking for a Domain Controller. This means that this computer was or is a member of a domain and not a workgroup.

I am assuming that you do not have a server with a Domain Controller so lets start with the typical home network setup. Each of your computers must be members of the same Workgroup.

Windows XP Professional can be setup to join a Domain or a Workgroup. Windows Vista Home Premium can only join a Workgroup. Look at the workgroup name for your Vista PC and setup your Windows XP machine for the same Workgroup name. In the TCP/IP settings for each computer, make sure that NetBIOS is enabled and that File and Print Sharing is enabled on all of your computers.
