I am installing a ceiling fan with a light. I have power at the box and need to know how to wire for the switches. I want to control the fan and the light separately.

Can I run a 14/3 + ground to the switch box by sharing a hot lead and using the other two wires for the switch?

You can run 14/2 to the switch box from the breaker panel for power and then 14/3 from the switch box to the fixture.

The white's pass through and get connected to the white of the fan.

Black from the 14/2 wire goes to one terminal of each switch.

Then Red (14/3) goes to the switch 1 and Black (14/3) goes to switch 2.

Black and Red go to the light and fan in the fixture.

Thanks - but please clarify one thing - I currently have power running from the breaker panel to the box in the ceiling - not to the switch box. My question is how this should be wired? Do I need to bring power to the switch box and wire as indicated or can I start with the existing wiring?
