What can I do to renters that are not paying for rent... I am in a situation with my bank/mortgage company. I was suggested to put my payments to a halt to lower my interest rate... now there are letters of non payment on the house. The renters opened my mail and read this. They think the house is being foreclosed so they have STOPPED paying the rent and told me that they can SUE ME?? What can I do in this situation. Their contract has already expired and are from "month to month" now. All utilities are still in my name as well. Can I call the police? Please HELP!
THANKS

You can evict them. Tell them that it isn't foreclosing but because they haven't paid you you can't pay them. (Maybe you could even tell them to make the payment straight to the mortgage if they don't believe you)
Tell them otherwise you are going to have to start eviction proceedings.

First, if they opened a letter addressed to you, they broke federal law. Second, if they stopped payment, you evict them.
I would go to the Post Office and ask what happens to someone who opens someone else's mail. I would then give them a three day pay or quit notice (it may be longer in your area). If they don't pay up, you file for eviction.
They have NO right to sue you. Don't let them intimidate you, they are trying to take advantage of you.
But the only police you can call would be on the opening mail rap.
