I have a 1996 Ford Probe, 2.5L with 125000+ miles. I've had it in storage for about a year and recently started driving it again. Everything works except the a/c. It was freezing cold last year before I put it in storage. I have charged it with the coolant you can get at the auto store. The vehicle was previously retrofitted with the r-134a coolant before I bought it. And I did make sure that I filled it with the r-134a. It was a little low so I filled it to 35psi. But the compressor still will not turn on. I have checked the relay and the fuses. They are all good. At least I think the relay is good, I checked it with a multimeter to see if voltage was going though it and it was. When I put the fan on hi and the a/c on max the engine acts like it wants to kick on the compressor but it just doesn't go. All it does is blow hot/warm air.

. Test all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter, since you don't want to rely on visual inspection:

. Check electrical connections to the A/C Clutch Cycling Switch and to the compressor's clutch.
. Replace the A/C Clutch Cycling Switch, if the clutch does not engage. Coat schrader-type valve threads with PAG oil.
Efforts should be focused on getting the compressor clutch to engage.

I jumped the wires to the clutch cycling switch and the clutch didn't engage. How can I tell if it the whole unit or just the clutch

It will probably be cheaper to replace the compressor/clutch assembly than to just replace the clutch, especially if a lot of labor is required to remove the compressor. If you have over 100,000 miles on the car, I would replace the compressor/clutch, accumulator, and orifice tube.
The link below may motivate you tackle the job, which I did three months ago:
